Fire Chief [Car 1] (White Helmet)
The Fire Chief provides administrative direction and leadership for all Fire Department functions, operations, and personnel through the supervision of staff and a review of their activities. Responsibilities include reviewing the general operation of the department to determine efficiency, providing direction on major projects or problem areas, planning for the future, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and providing policy guidance. In addition, the Fire Chief is responsible, through study and consultation with municipal officials, for developing recommendations for the protection of life and property in the municipality.
Assistant Chief [Car 2] (White Helmet)
The Assistant Chief will administer, plan, direct and control all aspects of the fire department including administration, fire suppression, fire prevention and rescue activities of the department as authorized by the Fire Chief. Plan direct and supervise through subordinate officers the activities of the fire department as specified in departmental policies & procedures. Establish and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on best practices in the industry. Have training programs developed and implemented in accordance with accepted standards to improve the understanding and skill of all staff in fire fighting and rescue procedures.
Battalion Chief [BC-01, 02] (White Helmet)
Under direction of the Assistant Chief and Fire Chief, serves as the third in command of the Fire Department and helps plan, organize and direct the day to day operations. Plan direct and supervise through subordinate officers the activities of the fire department as specified in departmental policies & procedures. Also assists with any administrative duties or other tasks assigned by the Assistant Chief.
Captain [CP-01, 02] (Red Helmet)
Under the direction of the Assistant Chief and Battalion Chief, plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the emergency and non-emergency activities of a fire suppression company; commands emergency response scenes; directs and performs a variety of staff support functions; plans, organizes, coordinates and directs training, recruitment, fire inspection, and prevention programs; and performs related work as assigned.
Lieutenant [LT-01, 02] (Yellow Helmet)
Under direction of the Battalion Chief or Fire Captain, deploys, supervises and reviews the work of Firefighters, takes command of fires and other emergency incidents within the municipality unless relieved by a Captain or Chief, performs the full range of emergency response duties as a member of a response team; coordinates and participates in non-emergency inspection, training, maintenance and related activities; assists Fire Captains in providing administrative support for specified- departmental programs; and performs related work as assigned. A Lieutenant may also perform the same duties as a firefighter
Specialist [SP-01, 02] (Black Helmet/TRO Helmet)
Under direction of a Lieutenant, Captain, or Chief, provides direct services, individually and as a member of a team in response to emergency incidents. Specialists are subject matter experts beyond fire related emergencies. Specialists head up the Special Operation division of SAFD under the direction of command. Specialists are expected to remain highly proficient in the various disciplines of TRO Operations and continuously train, study and update SOPs in accordance with industry standards.
Firefighter II [F2-xx] (Black Helmet)
Under direction of a Lieutenant, Captain, or Chief, provides direct services, individually and as a member of a team in response to emergency incidents. May perform other tasks or duties as assigned by command staff.
Firefighter I [F1-xx] (Black Helmet)
Under direction of a Lieutenant, Captain, or Chief, provides direct services, individually and as a member of a team in response to emergency incidents. May perform other tasks or duties as assigned by command staff.
Probationary Firefighter I [P01, 10] (Orange Helmet)
Under the direction of a Firefighter II or higher, provides services as a member of a SAFR team in response to emergency incidents. The Probationary Firefighter is in a constant evaluation and learning process. The Probationary Firefighter is NOT permitted to function in any SAFR capacity unless directly supervised by a FF II or higher.

Appointed by NODUS Staff
Served in the capacity of SAFD Ranks and is a subject matter expert in fire department services
Assistant Chief [Car 2] (White Helmet)
Appointed by Fire Chief
Expert knowledge of SAFR SOPs
Expert knowledge of SAFR Special Operations SOPs
Lead member of the Fire Department
Ability to organize & delegate, tactfully and diplomatically arbitrate conflicts between viewpoints to build consensus
Ability to recruit, train, mentor and direct firefighters in the station environment and during emergency operations
Battalion Chief [BC-01, 02] (White Helmet)
Appointed by Assistant Chief and Fire Chief
Expert knowledge of SAFR SOPs
Expert knowledge of SAFR Special Operations SOPs
Ability to organize & delegate, tactfully and diplomatically arbitrate conflicts between viewpoints to build consensus
Ability to recruit, train, mentor and direct firefighters in the station environment and during emergency operations
Captain [CP-01, 02] (Red Helmet)

Served competently as Lieutenant

Lieutenant [LT-01, 02] (Yellow Helmet)
Appointed by Assistant Chief and Fire Chief
Minimum nomination from Two or more Command Staff
Minimum 3 months as Specialist
Expert knowledge of SAFR SOPs
Expert knowledge of SAFR Special Operations SOPs
Must have demonstrated leadership qualities in previous ranks
Clean disciplinary record
Specialist [SP-01, 02] (Black Helmet/TRO Helmet)
Minimum nomination from Two or more Command Staff
Minimum 1 month as FF II
Expert knowledge of SAFR SOPs
Expert knowledge of SAFR Special Operations SOPs
Conduct Specialist "Interview" with a member of Command Staff
Firefighter II [F2-xx] (Black Helmet)
Minimum 3 weeks as FF I
Thorough knowledge of SAFR SOPs
Successfully pass FF II evaluation process
Firefighter I [F1-xx] (Black Helmet)
Minimum 4 days as Probationary FF
Attend orientation and have basic knowledge of SAFR SOPs
Successfully pass structure fire evaluation
Probationary Firefighter I [P01, 10] (Orange Helmet)
Successfully pass SAFR interview process
Attend SAFR orientation and demonstrate basic knowledge of SOPs
