- Interview Tips
The interview questions are premade. Review them beforehand and use them to guide your meeting
Use the time and form to get to know the person
Start by introducing yourself
Let them know how long this is going to take
Explain the interview/orientation process to the applicant so they can know what to expect
Answer their questions as well as ours. Your goal is to decide if you think they are a good fit for the department
Will they get along with staff, respect the rules, and have fun
Do not limit them based on age, lack of experience, or knowledge alone
Make the interview as informal to help the interviewer and applicant feel more comfortable
Get to know the person, not intimidate them
Learn about the applicant's goals and aspirations within the department
Ask the applicant if they questions as you go along
Take notes! As many or as little as you feel you need! Only a few items on the form are required to be filled out, use that flexibility.
